Marriage

Marriages are made in heaven – but divorced on the ground of justice. Therefore, it is important that spouses develop an idea early on in the event of a separation as to how this can be done fairly and without harm. If, however, separation does occur, the parties concerned should find a way to achieve a good balance of interests. In the case of international families, the often complex German regulations are supplemented by further questions which can only be clarified with knowledge of the law of the countries and cultures concerned. In the case of marriages to entrepreneurs and self-employed persons, the disputes also revolve around the economic basis for maintenance and compensation for gains, i.e. specifically business income and the value of companies or independent practices.A marriage is not the happy end; it is always just a beginning. According to German law, marriages are entered into for life and spouses are obliged to live together and bear responsibility for each other.
2018 is the year of most marriages since 1993 and the divorce rate in 2018 was almost 33%. Marriages that were annulled in 2018 lasted an average of almost 15 years until the time of divorce.
